Capturing My First Wedding...........

Last week, I was given the honor of photographing the wedding of a couple of friends of ours. They waited a long time for this day, and I am so honored to have gotten to be a small part of it!

The ceremony was in a simple pavilion, in a local park...

Everyone anxiously awaited the bride's arrival....
(including her grandson.....

Ok..... this post is getting REALLY long...lol. I'm really proud of myself! It means so much to me to have been given this opportunity, and I think I did pretty well for my first time out! Hopefully, I'll keep learning, and keep getting better!

What do you guys think?

How fun! I love how you captured the details! The bow, the ring in the bouquet, the veil...very nice :) I like the editing too. Do you use Lightroom? I can't remember if I asked you that before.
Good job! I can't wait to do my first wedding!! :) Who wants to get married?! lol
Oh...I do have a neighbor that wants me to take family pictures. Not sure when though...

Yes, I use both Lightroom and Photoshop... My copy of Photoshop is old, but it's a really expensive program, and it really suits my needs at this point :), but I was able to get a really good deal on Lightroom 2, since Lightroom 3 is coming out. It was love! lol.

Thank you very much for the compliment! I did the wedding for free, because, well.... I'm still very new at this, and my current equiptment isn't of a professional grade.....I can't wait to get a dslr! I figure, it's a win-win.... I get the learning experience, photos for my portfolio, and lots of practice! I was just honored to be asked! My neighbor actually asked me yesterday if I would photograph her brother's wedding, and insists I name a price. I have no idea what to charge!

I love the one of the back of her dress & the one of the flower petals on the aisle! You did a really nice/classic job! I bet she will be very pleased!

Very nice editing! I'm using Lightroom too...but I still use CS4 for complicated photo editing. Like the details you captured! Congrats on your first wedding, I'm also planning on taking wedding photos. I just have to finish a website I'm contracted to.

I know Photoshop is expensive--ugh! I need it! I have Lightroom 3. It's awesome :)
Yeah....there's so much to consider.

Like, how to create a portfolio. I know I need pics obviously, but how do I present them? In a book? Like I found one on mpix.com and it will cost about $60-$85 for a decent sized book. Or is there a better way? Is an online portfolio acceptable?
Yeah...how much would we charge? That's so tough! I see a lot of pros charging $75 for the setting fee and then, they give the customer a CD with 20 pics on it for them to print as they please. If they would like more, then they buy them off of a website (like CHIE said). Which one is best for a newbie?
Maybe as we figure this out, we can share what we find! lol My husband is getting into it too and he is wanting a name and a website, etc. I didn't plan on him doing this with me! lol

Wow, you did such a great job! I really love flower petals one...very artistic :) I'm hoping to get better with my photography and I'm actually heading to my cousin's wedding next weekend, so thanks for the shot ideas.

Saw your post in the MckMama forum, so happy I stopped by!

You definitely captured the most precious moments of the wedding. I also love the details, the bow, veil, rings, bouquet, emotions, food, etc. Nice job!

Popped over from Mckmama's blogfrog. LOVE the one of the ring in the flowers, that's gorgeous!

I didn't see the mean comment, but saw the convo on BF. As a photographer you did a fantastic job! It's not up to you tell people how to do their hair and makeup for THEIR BIG DAY!? And the bow shot is great. The Bride knows her body, and if she'd been uncomfortable, I'm sure she would've told you.

*sigh*
You did great:)

This is free advise, so take it as that, but I would consider charging for the wedding and investing the money into a dSLR. This camera from Canon is fantastic! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/675618-REG/Canon_4462B003_EOS_Rebel_T2i_Digital.html
It would do everything you want it to at a very reasonable price.
Love the pictures of the details.

top notch stuff and I like the comments but what about the ugly problem of collusion in online poker?
